"Walk on by" mixed with "Purple Psyche"

Vorige week weer nieuwe jasjes naar conceptstore VANDEMAKER gebracht omdat ze langzaam op begonnen te raken in de winkel. Het is voor TWIMMS echt  tijd om te beginnen met productie maken. Dus vandaag weer aan de gang met het maken van nieuwe jasjes, heerlijk om te doen trouwens.

Hoe ik op het idee kwam om dit te gaan doen? In oktober 2015 maakte ik het eerste jasje. Ik had de prachtige song "Walk On By", gezongen door Dionne Warwick gehoord. En in mijn hoofd zag ik het beeld van gezichten van dames, die nog een keer over hun schouder keken, terwijl ze wegliepen van hun geliefde.

Zo begon ik te schilderen op de ruggen van jeansjasjes, mijn favoriete materiaal, misschien om dat moment te vangen? En bij ieder portret ontstond steeds een verhaal, deels vanuit de herinnering en deels vanuit de actualiteiten. Dat verhaal vertelde ik met allerlei textieltechnieken, appliceren, borduren en kralen. Uiteindelijk heb ik 16 unieke jasjes gemaakt.

Een bevriende fotograaf, August Swietkowiak, met wie ik al vaker had samengewerkt, zag de jasjes en bood me aan om er mooie foto's van te maken. Met twee mooie modellen, Tiffany en Rhyonnah gingen we foto's maken in de behoorlijk koude natuur van september 2016. Ook werd, door August, deze mooie video in elkaar gezet, waar natuur, materiaal en de jasjes samensmelten.

Last week I brought new jackets to concept store VANDEMAKER because tthey needed new stoke, because of the sales. It is really time for TWIMMS to start making production. So today I start with the making of new jackets, a great job, by the way.

How did I decide to make these jackets?. In October 2015 I made the first jacket. I had heard the beautiful song "Walk On By", sung by Dionne Warwick. And in my head I saw the image of faces of ladies, just looking back one more time as they walked away from their lover.

So I started painting on the backs of jeansjackets, my favorite material, perhaps to catch that moment? And with each portrait a story arose, partly from memories and partly from the current affairs. I told that story with all sorts of textile techniques, application, embroidery and beads. In the end I made 16 unique jackets.

My friend and photographer, August Swietkowiak, with whom I had worked together before, saw the jackets and offered me to take beautiful pictures. With two beautiful models, Tiffany and Rhyonnah we went to take pictures in the pretty cold nature of september 2016. And August also made this beautiful video in which nature, material and jackets fuse together.
